What Is Your Hair Type?

hair type
Hair Type
Everyday you see people with all color and style of hair. But did you know that you have a hair type? Yes! Not all hair has been created the same.

Lets start with the basic structure of hair:

1) Hair grows from the follicle, which is long and bulbous. If you were to pull out a strand of hair you would see the bulge at the tip of the hair. The cells at the base of the follicle divide rapidly and is where you get your hair growth.

2) Each strand of hair consists of three layers, the first being the innermost layer called the medulla. This is only present though in thick hair though.

3) The middle layer is known as the cortex. This layer provides the strength, color and texture of your hair.

4) The outer most layer is called the cuticle and this is what protects the cortex. It is completely colorless.

5) The entire strand of hair is made up of a protein called keratin. And that is hair!

There are 2 basic kinds of hair:

1) Terminal hair is the hair that grows thick and long and is found on the head, armpits, pubic hair face and chest. (Face and chest on men)

2) Vellus hair is soft short hair that you will find over the rest of your body.

The type of hair you have seems to have to do with geography.

1) If you are of Asian descent, then the hair strands are round and thicker than all other types of hair. With the exception of the red head who has the thickest hair of all.

2) If you are of European descent with blonde or dark hair, then your hair strands are thinner. The strands are round to oval shaped.

3) If you are of African descent, then the hair strands are flat and that is the reason for the frizziness and curl.

It’s interesting to see when you get a mix of Asian genes with African genes or Caucasian with African. I am a white girl with blonde, curly frizzy hair. My parents came from Holland where there is a high concentration of people with African descent. So it’s not hard to see where I got my hair type, which I personally love. It’s a Hair Factor

So you can now figure out why your hair is the way it is. You just need to do a bit of research into your family tree and there you’ll have it.

Enjoy!

Hair Care Tips for the Swimmers and Sun-bathers

Hair Care Tips for the Swimmers
It is of utmost importance for the swimmers to take care of their hair because chlorine and salt water are both harmful for hair. The water of the swimming pool contains chlorine and if the swimmer is a navigator then salt water of sea could not be avoided so they should pay attention to their hair otherwise hair that goes untreated will have dry hair and will develop a green color cast on hair. The formation of green color is due to the chemical combination of chlorine and copper sulphate in the hair. Prolong exposure to excessive heat of the sun is also very harmful for your unprotected hair as it causes a chemical reaction called oxidation, which weakens bonds between hair cells, causing hair to become dull and brittle over time.

To avoid any damage to your hair it is important that you take care of your hair regularly by using good shampoo with EDTA that will help to remove the chlorine in water, conditioner and using swimming cap while you are swimming or wearing a hat whenever you are out in the sun. Those who have to work in the open field under the sun they need to avoid highlighting their hair and need to have extensive conditioning of hair. Look for those styling creams, pomades, leave-in conditioners, and shine enhancers with sunscreen that contains the ingredient octyl methoxycinnamate those guard hairs by both absorbing and deflecting harmful rays.

Though you find numerous skin care products that contain SPF that protects your skin from harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun but hair product with SPF is still to come in the market. And if any hair care product said to sunscreen your hair then it doesn’t offer total protection as it is difficult to distribute it evenly. Any there are several other options that will protect your hair from ultraviolet rays of the sun and they are hat and some styling products with silicone that smooth the cuticle, fill in gaps, and keeps moisture out leaving an invisible film on the hair that can be washed out easily and so there is no buildup.

If your hair is lifeless mostly on humid days, as it causes curly hair to frizz as well as weighs down straight hair then moisture in the atmosphere is the main reason and if this is not the reason then it may be due to the oiliness of your hair. Make sure to put your hair up in a ponytail since humidity causes hair to swell, and in this condition avoid the use of hair conditioner because it will soak in moisture better. So it could be concluded that you should apply the hair care products after determining the condition of you hair to get the effective result.

How to Grow Hair Faster
Many people want to look good all the time but the hair is often one part of the body that they tend to ignore. They even tend to experiment with a lot of hairstyles and products to go with the trend without really being cautious about the effects. To them, regular washing, combing and brushing are enough to keep their hair healthy.

It's never too late to start taking good care of your hair. If you want to keep a healthy crowning glory until your senior years, the best way is to maintain it the right way. Some of you may not be aware but there are actually techniques that can help you make your hair grow faster without having to use medicines or other chemically laden products.

Now is the time to change your old ways when it comes to hair care. If you follow certain steps and be consistent, you can always get the hair length you wish in a much shorter time.

First, always be gentle with your hair. Comb gently. Brush gently. Massage gently when cleaning it. To prevent tangles after a bath, use a wide-toothed comb and comb your hair in a slow motion. Additionally, avoid pulling your hair tightly especially for women who are fond of ponytails, braids, cornrows and clips.
Second, avoid shampoos and conditioners containing harsh chemicals. Choose the gentler products that are fit for your specific hair type. This also applies to your hair styling products from gels and sprays to mousse and hair straightening formulas.

Third, take multivitamins every day. Remember that not everything you eat every day contain the required daily nutrients that your body needs to grow properly. By taking multivitamins, you get additional nutrients. Vitamin B complex, for instance, is essential in promoting hair growth. Other vitamins and minerals that help in blood circulation including iron are also helpful.

Fourth, maintain a healthy lifestyle. This means eating a balanced diet every day, getting enough sleep, doing different forms of exercise and avoiding vices such as drinking alcohol and smoking. Avoid the stress at all costs by taking the time to relax when you can.

Fifth, don't try to lose a lot of weight in just a very short period. Experts say that sudden weight loss can affect the hair's growth as well. This is because as your body loses weight, a lot of nutrients are also being shed. There are certain diets for people who want to shed their extra pounds that lack nutrients and when the body takes in less of the proper nutrients, hair loss can result.

Finally, you may want to use some organic remedies. These include the use of aloe vera, coconut milk and rosemary among others in massaging your scalp and hair. Some of these natural home remedies can be used alone or mixed with other herbs and oils. They can be massaged several times a week on your scalp and hair to promote proper blood circulation and hair grow faster.

The key is to always be consistent and you will eventually reap the benefits.

Use a Hair Brush Every Day to Improve Scalp Circulation to Make Your Child's Hair Strong and Healthy

Hair Brushes

With every morning comes a new day  and a routine. Most of us have made a habit of doing our grooming in the morning, to prepare for the day ahead. Most notably, and probably most important  is our hair care regimen. Every hair style starts with one basic thing :  the hair brush. Without one, we would be lost to hay like and matted hair or at least un-stylish hair.
Luckily, in 1898, an African American woman created and patented the hair brush that we are so familiar with today. The hair brush now come in three basic styles flat, round, and paddle, and can be used on both human and animal hair. While the style of bristles may vary, the same basic shape of the brush has been held for over a hundred years.

Most brushes are made from animal hair, nylon, or plastic bristles. Animal brushes are long lasting, and the most gentle on human hair, but are sometimes disliked by those who have allergic reactions to them. Nylon bristles, on the other hand, are inexpensive, stiffer, and usually do not produce an allergic reaction. Plastic bristles are the most utilitarian of the materials. Extremely stiff, plastic bristles are perfect for thick, coarse or hard to manage hair.
Hair brushes are usually used on longish hair, while the comb is reserved for shorter styles. However, some people swear by using a hair brush on short hair. This is because all brushes provide an excellent and well needed service to all of us scalp circulation. Stimulating the blood vessels on one's scalp ensures that the hair grows strong and healthy, and develops a beautiful and lustrous shine.

For those who do have long hair, there are several brushes from which to choose. First of all, and most basically, is the flat brush. A flat hair brush is used for de-tangling hair, providing satisfactory and prepared hair to begin styling. Every person should own one of these, if only for circulatory purposes.

Round brushes are a blessing for those of us who love to try different styles. The circular design provides a good template for curled or swept back looks. Usually used in conjunction with a hair dryer, gel, or other styling agent, a round hair brush is often used by professional stylists in expensive salons.

However, you might not want curls, and in fact, be trying to get rid of them. For this supposedly difficult task is the paddle brush. Large, wide, and flat, a paddle hair brush is used to straighten locks into a smooth and sleek style. Used with a hair dryer, a paddle brush should be dragged slowly through the hair, with the hair dryer following closely behind.
As you can see, there are hair brushes for every desirable style. Chances are you like to experiment with different hairdos. If so, make sure to have one of each hair brush in your bathroom flat, paddle, and round.
